Census records for 1850 through 1880 show he was born in Virginia but his marriage record to Mary Ramsey shows he was born in North Carolina. William was listed as 47 in 1850, 55 in 1860, 68 in 1870 & 78 in 1880 making him born between 1801 - 1805. His marriage record to Mary Ramsey lists his age as 56 in 1854 which would mean he was born about 1798. Based on this information, his birth date is listed here as between 1798 - 1805. Death Notes: William died sometime after the 1880 census was taken on 10 Jun 1880 and 8 Feb 1886 when his son, Jim, sold property inherited from William.

Both households had a male child under 5 [Robert] and a female 20-30 [Patsy]. One has a male 20-30 and the other has a male 30-40. The elder William was living in Rockcastle County when he filed his Revolutionary War pension application in 1832 but his children, if any, were not mentioned in that application.
