Additional Information

JOHN WILLIAM "WILL" MCCAULEY:

Notes:
John William McCauley arrived in Hopkins County, Kentucky around 1900 from Heard County, Ga. He gave his children almost no information about his parents & siblings or why he left home.

He married Verda Hankins in Hopkins County in 1904 and they apparently lived there for a while as their 2 oldest daughters were born there. Their 3rd daughter was born in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky in 1909 so they moved there between Sep 1906 and May 1909. Will and Verda had 11 children.

The 1910 Census in Muhlenberg County shows them living in Greenville with 3 daughters. In 1920, they were living there with 5 daughters and 1 son. By 1930, their 3 oldest daughters were married but also living in Muhlenberg County. Will & Verda were living with 4 daughters & 3 sons.

Will worked in coal mines and farmed in Kentucky and may have worked in cotton mills in Georgia as a young boy. He led the singing at Pleasant Hill Church for several years.

Verda died in 1942 and Will married Pearl Fitzhugh Joins 10 April 1943. He was in Rest Haven Nursing Home in Owensboro at the time of his death. He died there at 4:30 A.M. on 20 Jul 1959 from Bronchopneumonia. Secendary causes of death were listed as Arteriosclerosis [hardening of the arteries] & Chronic Pyelonephritis [long standing kidney infection that doesn't clear up].

Will & Verda had 11 children (7 daughters and 4 sons).

VERDA WALLER "VERDIE JANE" HANKINS:

Notes:
Verda was born and raised in Hopkins County, Kentucky. Her middle name was the maiden name of her great, great, great grandmother (Dorothy Waller) and was also the middle name of her paternal grandmother’s sister, Mary Waller Goodloe Offutt. Verda was said to not like her middle name and adopted Jane as her middle name (probably after her paternal grandmother, Isabella Jane Goodloe Hankins).

Verda suffered from heart problems for several years before her death. She died at the Greenville Hospital at 2:15 P.M. on 16 May 1942. According to her death certificate, cause of death was Chronic Myocarditis [Inflammation of the heart muscle] with secondary cause of Chronic Interstitial Nephritis [a kidney disorder].
